Title: Highways Supervisor
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Supervisor to join our Area 10 account in Manchester, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of highways maintenance operations across the North West road network. This is a key operational leadership role overseeing frontline teams and ensuring works are delivered safely, compliantly and to a high standard.

Contract: Permanent
Hours: 42 hours per week – 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (alternating 4 x 12-hour days and 4 x 12-hour nights)
Working in partnership with National Highways, Amey delivers vital maintenance and response services across an extensive network of motorway and trunk roads throughout the North West. This includes over 1450km of motorway and dual carriageway roads, as well as approximately 500 structures.
In this role, you will support the successful delivery of highways maintenance activities, ensuring health, safety, environmental and operational standards are consistently achieved while leading and developing operational teams.
You will play an important role in promoting Amey’s core value of ‘Safety First, Always’, creating a positive culture across the workforce and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company and client standards.
What You’ll Do:

Carry out regular site visits to ensure works are completed safely, to specification and within programme requirements.

Conduct HSEA inspections and provide technical support and guidance to operational teams where required.

Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings, ensuring compliance with PPE and Safe Systems of Work.

Ensure all works are accurately recorded using PDA systems to support client submissions and operational reporting.

Arrange materials, traffic management and resources to ensure works are completed efficiently and with minimal waste.

Confirm teams have appropriate permits and are working in line with contract and CDM requirements.

Prepare duty rotas for winter maintenance and emergency response operations.

Process overtime and timesheets, ensuring compliance with SOM principles and working time regulations.

Support the continuous improvement of operational performance and promote a positive team culture.

What You’ll Bring:

Full UK driving licence (LGV Class C desirable).

Previous experience within Highways Maintenance contracts.

Experience delivering winter service and emergency response operations.

Strong people management and supervisory experience.

Understanding of performance monitoring and continuous improvement.

Ability to work nights and weekends as part of the shift pattern.

Commercial awareness and a proactive, solution-focused approach.
